Blessing of Children
O God, as a mother comforts her children,
you strengthen, sustain, and provide for us.
We come before you with gratitude
for the gift of this child,
for the joy that has come into this family,
and for the grace with which you surround them
and all of us.
As a father cares for his children,
so continually look upon us
with compassion and goodness.
Pour out your Spirit.
Enable your servants to abound in love,
and establish our homes in holiness;
Through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Bible Verses for Parents
These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. Deuteronomy 6:6-9
Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother's teaching. They will be a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck. Proverbs 1:8-9
Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. Proverbs 22:6
Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. Ephesians 6:4
Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. Colossians 3:20
Enjoy a 3 minute Retreat with God
3-Minute Retreats invite you to take a short prayer break right at your computer. Spend some quiet time reflecting on a Scripture passage.
Knowing that not everyone prays at the same pace, you have control over the pace of the retreat. After each screen, a Continue button will appear. Click it when you are ready to move on. If you are new to online prayer, the basic timing of the screens will guide you through the experience.
In the 2013 version of Parenting in the Pew the author believes children are at church for the same reason as their parents: for the privilege of worshiping God. Worship, Castleman writes, is "the most important thing you can ever train your child to do." So with infectious passion, nitty-gritty advice and a touch of humor, she shows you how to help your children (from toddlers to teenagers) enter into worship.
