Handling Tragic Events with Children
Helping your child discover their spiritual gifts
During the months of October and November 2013, the children in 1st grade through Junior High studied the stories of Joseph and His Brothers and while he was in Egypt. There are several lessons for us within this story. There is the obvious theme of the consequences of sibling rivalry run amuck. There is the image of the coat, a sign of favoritism and blessing for Joseph. God looks at us as a favorite – worthy of a gift that makes us stand out among the others. The gift of the coat is a gift of talents and potential that God has given to us to use for God’s kingdom. Our task is to discover what those gifts are and to use them. It is never too early to encourage our children to discover their God given gifts and to find ways to channel their gifts at home, in the community and certainly at church.
The Spiritual Gifts can be found in the following verses:
1 Corinthians 12:8-10; Ephesians 4:11,12, 1 Peter 4:10,11 and Romans 12:4-8.
